| These
sculptures, resplendent in their human and animal forms, are countered by
Zoë Marie’s delicate jewellery. The first prize winner of the
2001 Goldsmiths Craftsmanship and Design Award, Zoë finds inspiration
in form rather than surface pattern producing work in gold, silver and semi-precious
stones. All Zoë’s designs are innovative creations with interlocking
articulated shapes replicating buds and petals and the strong starburst
of a bulb breaking through frosty ground in the early spring. Zoë’s
pieces move sinuously, just as a plant might vibrate in the wind. And just
like a plant, these pieces beg to cherish and nourished. |

| Life
has been extremely busy for St. Buryan-based jewellery designer and maker
Zoë Marie since she moved to Cornwall early last year. She soon joined
the CCA and had her work accepted at the Trelowarren and Trelissick Galleries.
Zoë has recently received her second gold award from the Goldsmiths'
Crafts and Design Council for the excellence of design work.
Zoë Marie gained a first class honours degree in jewellery and silversmithing at Loughborough College of Art, and this was followed by a spell at the London Guildhall University. She gained national recognition for her designs with work displayed at the prestigious 'Celebration in Gold & Silver' exhibition of pieces made during the reign of HM Queen Elizabeth II. Since then she has been privileged to exhibit her work at the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths' Fair in the City of London. In 2001 she received the first of her major awards for her innovative articulating pod necklace. Zoë works in silver and gold and incorporates precious and semi-precious stones. Interlocking articulated necklaces form the core of her current collection. These pieces are beautifully tactile, they move sinuously through the hand and are highly finished three dimensional forms. Her work is inspired by the strength of nature's life-force and the components that make up her necklaces are reminiscent of buds and petals. Zoë is keen to build relationships with local galleries: as well as Trelissick and Trelowarren, she has work on display at the Navigator Gallery in St Just. An innovative design for 2004, and the first of a 'wobbling' ring collection, will soon be available at the Avant Garde Gallery, Padstow. This creation takes its form from the enfolding petals of a rose, and incorporates a pink diamond in its white gold centre. Future ‘wobbling’ rings will be based on different flower shapes, and contain appropriately-coloured diamonds. |

Marie, with her amazing, award winning Articulated Pod design necklace,

| "The
success of young designers such as Jade Jagger has jostled traditional jewellery
houses into injecting some colour, movement and scale into their collections.
Pearls are still an aspiration but, rather than the cultured variety in a three-strand choker, wear ropes of freshwater pearls in metallic hues for a younger and fresher feel. Sculptural 'strip' necklaces are replacing cross pendants, but these innovations aren't confined to Generation Y. There's a style - and price - to suit every age." |

| "Just
over a year ago Thurrock Council won its unitary status. that status was
celebrated with the presentation of a ceremonial mace. It was designed by
former Thurrock College student Zoe Manhood, on a commission from the shopping
centre. Councillor Jones said "The mace is a traditional object; a symbol of history." he added "it is a modern mace made of modern materials, by a modern designer and for a modern council." He said the mace would be known as The Lakeside Mace". |
